Defining approval rules for planning rules

Use this procedure to define special criteria that require additional approval processes.

Note: 

Compensation is delivered with compensation planning process flows that start at the manager and progress up the manager structure.

If you make selections on this form, then you can specify criteria that is used to route the approval flow to the compensation analyst first. The flow then continues through the manager structure.

  1. Select Compensation > Set Up > Compensation Planning > Planning Rules.
  2. Open the planning rule.
  3. On the Approval Rules tab, select Create.
    Note: 

    The Approval Rules tab is displayed only if you select the check box for Require Approval Process on the Options tab.

  4. On the Approval Rule form, select the Manager Eligibility Group. Only managers that belong to the group are subject to the selected criteria to request approval. If you do not select an eligibility group, then all managers are subject to the approval process if the criteria are met.
  5. Select the criteria that triggers the approval process.
    Percent Awarded Above Guidelines

    If you select this option, the budgets are routed for approval when the manager awards a percent increase above the guidelines.

    Percent Awarded Above Threshold

    If you select this option, the budgets are routed for approval when the manager awards a percent increase above the threshold. If you select this option, then you must also specify a percent threshold.

    Percent Threshold

    If you select Percent Awarded Above Threshold, you must specify the percent threshold. For example, if you specify a threshold of 2 percent and the award is 1.5 percent above the guidelines, the approval process is not triggered.

    Salary Above Salary Range

    If you select this option, the budgets are routed for approval when the manager awards a salary that is above the salary range for the salary structure.

  6. Click Save.
