Calculating steps automatically

Use this procedure to automatically calculate steps for step and grade schedules.

  1. Select Compensation > Set Up > Step and Grade Schedules > Step and Grade Schedules.
  2. Click Create.
  3. Create the step and grade schedule. See Defining step and grade schedules.
  4. After you create the grades, click the Create Steps And Pay Rates button.
  5. On the Calculate Steps for Grades form, specify this information:
    Beginning Rate

    Specify the beginning rate for the schedule.

    Number of Steps

    Specify the number of steps to create.

    Step Percent or Amount

    Select whether the step calculation will be based on a percent or an amount. The percent or amount is added to each step starting from the beginning rate.

    Step Increment Amount

    Specify the percent or amount on which to base the step calculation. The percent or amount is added to each step starting from the beginning rate.

    Grade Percent or Amount

    Select whether the grade calculation will be based on a percent or an amount.

    Grade Incremental Amount

    Specify the percent or amount on which to base the grade calculation.

  6. Click OK.
    Note: 

    The application assigns numbers as labels to the steps. You can change these by clicking on the step.
