Defining validation rules for planning rules

Note: This procedure is not applicable if you selected No Manager Override To Default Amount for the planning rule.

Use this procedure to define the validations that determine such factors as whether a manager can vary from the guidelines. For example, if a manager awards more than the total budget, the manager receives a message.

You can create multiple validations and assign them by eligibility group.

  1. Select Compensation > Set Up > Compensation Planning > Planning Rules.
  2. Open the planning rule.
  3. On the Validation Rules tab, click Create, and select the action based on the type of validation to create.
    Note: The planning rule type determines the validation actions that are displayed.
    Create Allocation Over Total Budget Amount
    Define a validation that alerts the budget owner when award allocations exceed the total budget.

    Create Compare To Guidelines
    Define a validation that alerts the budget owner when an award is outside of the guidelines.

    Create New Salary Above Salary Structure Range
    Define a validation that alerts the budget owner when the new salary is above the resource's assigned salary structure maximum.

    Create New Salary Below Salary Structure Range
    Define a validation that alerts the budget owner when the new salary is below the resource's assigned salary structure minimum.

    Create Award Does Not Meet Minimum Threshold
    Define a validation that alerts the budget owner when the award is less than the minimum threshold that is defined on the rule.

    Create Whole Units Only
    Define a validation that alerts the budget owner when the award amount is not a whole unit. Decimals cannot be used with this option.

    Create Award In Increments
    Define a validation that alerts the budget owner when the award amount is not in the specified increment.
