Defining bonus objective goals

  1. Select Manager > Adjust Compensation > Bonus Objectives.
  2. On My Staff, select the employee for which to define a bonus objective.

    A red alert denotes active bonus periods.

    The resource's current compensation programs and bonus objective periods are displayed on the Active tab.

  3. Select the compensation program/bonus objective period for which to define a bonus objective, and open the bonus period to view information and instructions for the period.
  4. Click Create Bonus Objective.
  5. Specify this information:
    Goal

    Specify a short description of the goal.

    Goal Type

    Select the goal type to use for this goal.

    The goal types that you can select for this process only have the Use For Bonus Objective option selected. The select list does not show goal types that also have the Use Action Plan, Use External Results, or Approve Goals By Year options selected. If you want to use a goal type that uses any of these options (besides Use For Bonus Objective), you must create the goal in Goal Management and then use the Attach Bonus Objective action.

    Goal Category

    Select a goal category.

    If goal categories are entered on the bonus objective pay component, you must select a goal category that matches one of the pay component goal categories.

    Start Date, Due Date

    The default values are the bonus period start and end dates. You can specify other dates within the bonus period date range.

    Description

    Specify a description of the bonus objective.

    Expected Result

    Specify the goal outcome.

    Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Timebound

    Select the SMART rating factors that are applicable to the bonus objective. When the bonus objective is created, the system computes a SMART rating based on the rating factors that you selected.

    Align With Organization Goal

    If the goal is aligned with an organizational goal, select the organization goal.

    Bonus Objective Weight

    Specify a weight for the goal. All bonus objectives for a single period must be defined with weights or amounts.

    If you select a goal category and the pay component has set minimum, maximum, and aggregate values for the goal category, the weight you specify must fall within these restrictions. The maximum weight cannot exceed the aggregate weight.

    Bonus Objective Amount

    Specify the objective amount. All bonus objectives for a single period must be defined with weights or amounts. The maximum weight cannot exceed the aggregate weight.

  6. Click OK.

    The added goal is displayed on the Objectives panel.

  7. Continue adding goals, if applicable.

    The total weight of all the goals must equal 100%.

  8. After all of the objectives are defined for the period, click Submit for Approval.

    The goals are routed to the resource for approval.
