Performance appraisal ratings and scores in compensation awarding

When a compensation planning budget is calculated, the compensation analyst has several options:

  • Use the default performance rating level and score or the score only from Performance Management.
  • Assign a rating level through budget calculations.
  • Use Infor Spreadsheet Designer to update performance ratings and rating scores on the employee budget records.
  • Have the manager assign the rating level or score in the awarding view.

The salary awarding process uses rating levels to drive awarding guidelines and some lump sum rules. Rating scores are informational only. If there is a defined correlation between a rating score and a rating level, then the rating level can be derived from the rating score.

These requirements must be met to use rating scores:

  • The rating scales must have rating score ranges defined for each level with these requirements:
    • No overlap in score ranges

    For example:

Rating Level Label Score Range Begin Score Range End
    1 Poor 0 1.25
    2 Average 1.26 2.25
    3 Solid 2.26 3.25
    4 Excellent 3.26 5.00

For more information on defining rating scales, see the Infor Performance Management User Guide.

  • If the budget calculations default the Performance Management ratings and scores, then the same rating scale must be used on the compensation awarding view. It must also be used on the appraisal form.
  • If the budget calculations default the Performance Management scores only, then the budget calculations use the compensation awarding view rating scale to calculate a rating level. The rating scale for the compensation awarding view can be different from the rating scale for the performance appraisal. Both rating scales must use scores.

The settings for the compensation awarding view determine whether a manager sees the performance rating level or rating score. The settings also determine if they are allowed to update the performance rating level or rating score.

  • If a rating score is updated, then the rating level is automatically updated according to the score range that the new score belongs to. For example, if a score is 2.5, the rating level is 3 - Solid.
  • If a rating score is not within a range, then the rating level does not default.
  • If a rating level is updated, then the rating score is not updated automatically.

Updating performance ratings and scores with Infor Spreadsheet Designer

You can update performance rating levels and scores after employee compensation awarding records have been created.

These key fields are required:

  • HROrganization
  • Employee
  • WorkAssignment
  • SalaryAwardingRule
  • VersionDate

If updating a performance rating, then specify a value in the Rating Level field.

If updating a rating score, then specify a value in the Rating Score field.

If you only specify a rating score, then the rating level defaults if it is within a score range on the rating scale that is associated with the compensation awarding view.

Use the Transfer Update action, which updates only the provided fields and keeps the status of the record in Draft mode.
