Defining development plans

Development plans are sets of activities that are designed to help employees improve their current skills, learn new skills, and acquire further knowledge to gain new opportunities and responsibilities. Learning administrators can create and edit development plans.

  1. Select Catalog > Development Plans.
  2. On the Development Plans panel, click Create. To copy and modify a development plan, right-click the activity and select Copy Development Plan.
  3. On the Details tab, specify this information:
    Development Plan ID
    Specify the development plan ID.
    Development Plan Name
    Specify development plan name.
    Short Description
    Specify a brief description that is used throughout the application.
    Description

    Specify a detailed description of the development plan.

    Development Plan Type

    Select the development plan type.

    Total Credits Requires
    Specify the total number of credits that are required to complete the development plan.
  4. Click Submit.
  5. On the Details tab, specify this information:
    Difficulty Level
    Select difficulty level.
    Certificate Template
    Select the certificate template.
    Content Preview Video
    Select the video file for content preview.
    IMS ID
    Specify the IMS ID.
    Exclude From Catalog
    Select to exclude this development plan from the catalog.
    Require Approval
    If approval is required, then enable the approval requirement and specify the number of days before the approval request expires.
    Due Date
    Select to set the development plan schedule to one of these options. This field cannot be used if the Scheduled field is used.
    • Scheduled: Specify a due date.
    • Available a specific number of days after enrollment: Specify the number of days. The system calculates the due date for each instance of the development plan based on the number of days that you specify.
    Summary

    Specify a summary of the development plan.

    Requirement
    Specify development plan requirements.
    Expected Result

    Specify information on the results of the development plan.

    Objectives
    Specify development plan objectives.
    Audience
    Specify the audience for the development plan.
    Development Plan Schedule
    Select the development plan schedule.
    Open-Ended
    Select if the development plan is always available.
    Scheduled
    Select to set the development plan schedule to one of these options. This field cannot be used if the Due Date field is used.
    • Open ended: Specify the due date.
    • Scheduled: Specify a start date and a due date.
    • Available a specific number of days after enrollment: Specify the number of days. The system calculates the due date for each instance of the development plan based on the number of days that you specify.
    Duration-based
    Select if the development plan has a duration and specify the duration length (in days).
    Enable Notifications
    Select to enable notifications and select whether to send all notification or only development plan-specific notifications.
  6. Click Save.
    Development plans are created in Proposed status. You must activate the development plan to make it available to employees by clicking Activate Version on the Development Plans toolbar. Topics, visual groups and activities, outcomes, and Continuing Education Providers can be attached only when the plan is in Proposed status before activation or you must deactivate an active plan to make these changes by clicking Inactivate Version.
