Entry rule types

The entry rule types are waiting periods, change rules, and life event rules.

  • Waiting periods are used to determine the eligibility date for an individual in a plan. Waiting periods can have initial and re-enrollment conditions.
    • Initial enrollment: Conditions in this tab take effect if the individual has not been enrolled in the plan.

    • Re-enrollment: Conditions in this tab take effect if the individual is to be re-enrolled in the same plan type.

  • Change rules are used when an individual is already enrolled in a particular plan but is making a change, for example, changing a coverage option from individual to individual +1. Change rules are used by the Employee Enrollment Updates action and Life Events.

Examples: There are two benefit plans with the type of Health.
    • The employee is currently enrolled in Plan A. When they go through enrollment and select Plan B the Re-enrollment rules are used.
    • The employee was once enrolled in Plan A. They are not currently enrolled in Plan A. They have a life event and select Plan A. This will use Re-enrollment rules.
    • The employee is currently enrolled in Plan A. They have a life event and select Plan A again. This will use Change rules.
    • The employee has never been enrolled in a benefit of the type Health. When they have a life event, the initial enrollment rules are used.
  • Life event rules are used to determine the date for new benefit enrollments, change date for existing benefits, and termination date for unselected benefits. When there is the life event rule the waiting period, change, and termination rules are not referenced.
