Creating deductions for COBRA participants

When a COBRA participant is enrolled in a benefit plan, deductions are created. These deductions can be used to create an invoice for COBRA benefits. You can also create a one-time deduction from the standard deduction list.

  1. Select Benefits > Maintenance > COBRA Participant > By COBRA Participant.
  2. Select the Participant.
  3. In the Current or Future tab, open the benefit plan in which to create a deduction.
  4. On the Deductions tab, locate the One Time Deduction list.
  5. Click Create.
  6. Select a Deduction Code and specify this information:
    Beginning Date

    The date on which the deduction starts.

    Ending Date

    The last day on which the deduction will be taken (can be blank).

    Next Amount

    This value is calculated by taking the annual amount on the Details tab and dividing by the value of the employee's pay frequency as defined by the frequency table that is associated with the benefit plan.

    Balance Type

    Select a balance type.

    Balance Amount

    If there is a balance type, then specify the amount. For example, a dependent care spending account.

  7. Click Save.
