Eligibility date

The eligibility date is the date on which an individual is qualified to enroll into the benefit plan. These are considerations concerning eligibility dates:

  • The eligible date for the individual is calculated from the entry rules that are defined for the plan.

    See Benefit entry rules.

  • An individual cannot enroll in a benefit plan that has a start date that is prior to their eligible date. They can enroll with a later date, but only if the date complies with entry points on the plan's entry rules.

  • The individual's eligibility date is on or after the benefit plan start date.

Example

If the individual's eligibility date for the benefit is June 1, 2019, the start date for the individual's benefit can be June 1, 2019 or any later date that qualifies with the entry rules.
