Creating usage rules

Use this procedure to define usage rules.

  1. Select Absence Management > Set Up > Plans and Components > Rules > Usage.
  2. Click Create.
  3. Specify the Usage Rule code and Description.
  4. In the Choose One Requirement Date section, specify this information. The requirements date in usage rules determines when an employee's accruals, allotments, or both accruals and allotments can be used.
    Date
Select the date on which an employee's accruals or allotments can be used.
    Date User Field
Select the persistent date type field used to calculate the date on which an employee's accruals or allotments can be used.
  5. In the Occurrence section, specify this information:
    Occurrence
Select how often accrued amounts become eligible for use. If accrued amounts are only calculated for comparisons and adjustments to allotments, select None. If accrued amounts become immediately available for use, select As Accrued.
  6. In the Waiting Period section, specify this information:
    Waiting Period Start
If there is a waiting period that must be satisfied before resource is eligible to use accrued amounts, select the date from which the waiting period begins. If a value is selected, the Waiting Period and Unit fields are required.
    Period
Specify a numeric value for the waiting period that must be satisfied before accrued amounts become available for use. If a value is specified here, the Unit cannot be blank.
    Unit
If a value is specified in the Period field, specify the unit of time in which the waiting period is measured.

If you select Hours, additional fields are displayed.

    Service Class
If you select hours for the waiting period unit, select a service class that identifies which hours, by service code, count toward the waiting period.
    Hours Type
If you select hours for the waiting period, select which type of hours count towards the waiting period.
    Date Flag

If the waiting period start date is different than the requirement date, identify whether the earlier or later of the resulting dates once the waiting period is applied should be used for the usage begin date.

  7. In the Additional Date Options section, specify this information:
    Nearest Point
If points are specified for setting the usage begin date, select whether the nearest point before or after the requirement is met will be used.
    Points
If the usage begin date must fall on a specific calendar point, specify the month and day values to identify these points. For example, the first of the month.
    Pay Cycle Adjust
Specify when the Usage Start Date should be adjusted to coincide with the resource's pay periods using the resource's payment schedule on their primary work assignment.

Specify Adjust To Pay Period to set the Usage Start Date to the previous pay period end date from the calculated date.

Specify Adjust To Pay Period; Include End Dates to set the Usage Start Date to the previous pay period end date, even though the calculated date is already a pay period end date.

  8. Click Save.
