Replace dialog box

Use this dialog box to replace values in a field with a new value that you specify.

Note:
  • The search works beginning with the selected record and going on from there. It does not loop back through the beginning of the records. To search only the last part of a collection, start with the focus on the first record from which you actually want to search.
  • When you use this dialog box, and click OK, each value that matches the criteria is displayed, one at a time, and you are asked whether to replace that value. You can also click Yes to All to replace the value in all selected records at  one time.

The following table lists the elements of this dialog box and explains their use.

Element Function/Comments
Replace Specify the value that you want to find and replace.

An "implied wildcard" search is used.

See Using wildcards.

All Values To replace the contents of a particular field in all records, regardless of the field's current values, select this check box.

To selectively replace the contents of a field only if it contains the value you entered in the Replace field, clear this check box.

With Specify the value used to replace the value in the Replace field.
In collection Select the name of the collection you want to search.

If you do not know the name, return to the form and select Help > About This Form to see the name of the current collection.

In property Select the name of the field you want to search.

The default value for this field is the field that contained the cursor when you opened this dialog box. So, to have the field in which you want to replace values preselected here, make sure that field is selected when you open this dialog box.

Case-sensitive To find records that have the exact capitalization you typed, select this check box.

For example, to find any value that contains the string test, regardless of case, you specify Test and clear this check box. This locates values such as Test case, Amy's testing results, or Sales Contest.

If, however, you entered Test and selected this check box, the search would find only Test case from the previous list of results.

To display this dialog box, select the first record in the collection and place the cursor in the text field (or other field in which you can type in values) for which you want to find and replace some value. Select Edit > Replace Value in Collection.
