Exporting forms metadata

When working in a partial trust situation (such as a cloud installation) or with the web client, you are restricted from accessing databases directly. In cases like this, you can export forms metadata using XML files and then import them on the target system. This kind of situation requires the use of both the FormSync Export utility and the Import utility.

To export forms metadata using the FormSync Export utility:

  1. Open FormSync, either the stand-alone version or the form version.
  2. If you have not already done so, open the Configurations page and specify the Source configuration for which you want to export form objects.
  3. Access the FormSync Utilities page:
    • In the form version, click Utilities on the main page.
    • In the stand-alone version, click the Utilities icon on the Toolbar.
  4. Set filter criteria to retrieve the form objects that you want to export.
  5. Click Refresh List.
  6. Click the Export tab.
  7. (For the form version only) Specify where you want the output to go:
    • To save the XML file to a local disk, click Save.
    • To have the XML output display in a temporary page, click View.
  8. Specify a path and filename for the output file:
    • When using the Windows client or the stand-alone version, you can click the ellipsis () button and use the dialog box that opens to specify the path and filename.
    • When working in a partial trust situation or in the web client, there is no ellipsis button. The system suggests a name for the file, which you can change. In this case, the path is to the designated system download folder.
Note: The output file must be an XML file.
  9. To preserve any settings for objects that developers might have checked out, select Preserve locked by.
  10. To include any form licensing associated with the form objects, select Export form licenses.
  11. Click Export.
  12. When prompted, click Yes.
  13. (Optional, for the stand-alone version only) To view the output file, click the folder button to the right of the ellipsis button.
