Attaching an Existing Document

Note:  The term "document" in this context can be any kind of file, not just a text document. The file could be a spreadsheet, a graphics file, or any type of file that you need to attach to an object in the application.

To attach a document that was already imported:

  1. Open a form that contains a collection or property to which you want to attach a document.
  2. Select the form, record, or property to which you want to attach the document.
  3. Select Actions > Documents for Current.
The system displays the Attached Documents form as a linked window.
  4. Press Ctrl+N.
  5. In the Document Name field, specify a name for the document.
  6. Optionally, in the Description field, provide a description of the document to be attached.
  7. From the Document Type drop-down list, select the type of document you want to attach.
  8. Click Filter.
  9. Set filter criteria and then select Actions > Filter > Execute in Place.
To see a list of all documents currently imported in the system, leave all search criteria blank.
  10. In the Find Documents grid, select the document that you want to attach to the currently selected record. Optionally, you can preview potential documents using the View button.
Note: To preview the document before attaching it, click View.
  11. To attach the selected file, click Link.
  12. Save your changes.
  13. Verify that the File Extension field displays the correct file extension for the file you attached.
