Understanding the AETC process

If the normal or scheduled transport route cannot be used and special transportation is required, the OEM must approve the excess transport costs during the shipment preparation. This process is known as Authorization for Excess Transportation Charges (AETC).

In this case, additional information must be provided:

• an excess transportation authorization number, which is normally provided by the OEM by phone or e-mail and specified in the ERP system
• a reason code for excess transportation, specified in the ERP system
• a responsibility code for excess transportation, specified in the ERP system

The transportation authorization number is printed on the waybill. Transportation authorization number, reason code, and responsibility code are published in the ASN.
