Creating Variables

Use these instructions to create variables in DWD.

Follow these steps to create variables.

Note: 

After you create a variable, you can edit or delete it as applicable.

To enable Apply Single quote for string to all variables, select the Automatic single quote for all string check box. Clear check box to disable.

Create variables

  1. Select Administration > Variables from the menu. The Variable window opens.
  2. Click New. The Variable form opens.
  3. Enter these information for your variable.
    Name

    Assign a name for the variable.

    Note: 

    Avoid using spaces in the variable name.

    Value

    Enter the value for the variable.

    Description

    Enter a short description for the variable.

    Data Type

    Choose one from these data types:

    • Integer

    • Float

    • String
      Note: To add single quote in a variable, select Apply Single quote for string.

    • Date

    Context

    Select a category from the drop-down list.

    Note: 

    If there are no existing categories, select New Context Category and specify the category name.

    Variable Type

    Click the button for the type of variable you are creating:

    • Run-time variable

      This variable is replaced with a function call that is analyzed at run-time.

    • SQL Server Object variable

      This variable is used to define SQL Server object names such as database, schema, table, or column names that cannot be changed to a variable in T-SQL syntax.

  4. To leave out variables in Delta BMM extraction, click Exclude in Delta BMM.
    Note: New variables are not included in this feature.
  5. Click Save and Close. The variable you created is now in the list box.
