Mapping to a parent-child source table
- Select Dashboards > OLAP > Edit Database.
- Select the database to administer.
- Click the Dimensions node of the database structure.
- Click the Hierarchies icon of the dimension for which to create mappings.
- Click the Mappings icon of the hierarchy.
- Click New Mapping.
- Specify a name for the mapping.
- Optionally, add comments to the mapping.
- In the Data Connection field, select the data connection that connects the application to the staging database.
- Select Parent-Child Table as the source data type.
- Select the source table or view.
- Select the source relationship table or view.

In the Element
Name Column field, select the source column that identifies the
name of the elements in the source.
For example, a CurrencyName column in a currency table, or a ProductName table in a table of products.Note: Ensure that the Element Name Column and the Child Element Name column are the same. If the column is an ID, then map to one of the localized caption attributes to ensure that the elements names are assigned to the IDs in the hierarchy.
- Optionally, in the Element Type Column field, select a source column that identifies the type of elements in the source.
- Optionally, in the Element Order Column field, select the source column that identifies the order of the elements.
- In the Parent Element Name Column field, select the source column that identifies parent elements.

In the Child Element Name Column
field, select the source column that identifies child elements.

- Optionally, in the Weight Column field, select the source column that identifies the weights of elements.
- Optionally, in the Child Element Order Column field, select the source column that identifies the order of the child elements.
- Optionally, map attributes to columns in the source table.
