Design considerations
In-Context BI occupies a small space within Infor Ming.le, which requires some design considerations in relation to charts.
Follow these guidelines for charts in In-Context BI:
- Display a maximum of 12 values.
- Display value and axis labels only if they are short enough to be legible in the restricted space of the in-context widget. Instead, rely on tooltips.
- Do not use legends. In multi-series charts, a legend may occupy too much space. In a single-series chart, the chart title should be sufficient. If a legend is essential in a multi-series chart, position the legend at the bottom center.
- Edit the color picker and styles only in the icBIStlye.White stylesheet, not on reports.
- Do not use the Excel-like Axis Scaling option unless you require a standardized axis on your charts.
- Show the primary axis on column and bar charts.
- Do not use the both the Grid and Data Labels options in the same chart.
- Use the Show category for zero values option.
- Always specify Zero for the Display empty values option.
- Enable the Animated option.
- Select the User-defined option for categories.
- Add labels to axes.
- Do not use jump actions on axes.
- Do not apply borders unless it helps to group items on a larger report.
