Chart specific options

This topic provides specific guidance for pie, column, and bar charts.

References to colors are in the format rc(n,n). The numbers in parentheses are references to the rows and columns of the Colors of icBI Colors style sheet. In on-premises environments only, the style sheet is delivered with the Samples application. In the Application Studio report catalog, browse to Reports > Extras > in-context BI Chart Templates.

Pie

Show labels instead of a legend where appropriate.

Specify these colors for traffic light-like indicators:

Parameter Value
Good rc(6,6)
Warning rc(6,7)
Bad rc(6,8)

If the Samples application is not available, this table shows the equivalent RGB and Hex values for the parameters.

Parameter RGB Hex
Good 199,180,219 #c7b4db
Warning 84,161,211 #54a1d3
Bad 110,82,130 #6e5282

Column

Do not use value labels on columns unless there are so few labels that they are legible and do not overlap.

We recommend that you limit column charts to approximately 5 categories of 5 series.

Bar

Bar charts always display vertical zero axes. Use value labels instead of X-axes.

We recommend that you limit bar charts to two series and approximately five or six series.
