Separating content, example

In this example, you provide access to different folders to different users, depending on their roles.

  1. Select Dashboards > User and Permission Management > Application Roles.
  2. Select the Samples application and create application roles called SalesManager and FinanceManager. Give both roles View Application, View Dashboard, View OLAP, and View Report application permissions.
  3. Select Dashboards > User and Permission Management > Users and User Groups.
  4. Create Basic users called SalesReporter and FinanceReporter.
  5. Select the Samples application in the Application Roles widget. Assign SalesReporter to the SalesManager application role. Assign FinanceReporter to the FinanceManager application role.
  6. Sign into Application Studio as the Admin user and create folders called Finance Reports, Sales Reports, and WIP.
  7. Right-click the WIP folder and select Manage Permissions. Select the FinanceManager role and assign the No Rights permission. Assign No Rights to the SalesManager role.
  8. Right-click the Finance Reports folder and select Manage Permissions. Assign the No Rights permission to the SalesManager role.
  9. Right-click the Sales Reports folder and select Manage Permissions. Assign the No Rights permission to the FinanceManager role.
  10. Check in the Finance Reports, Sales Reports, and WIP folders.
  11. In Dashboards, sign in to the Sample application as the FinanceReporter user. In the Samples content connection, only the Finance Reports folder is available. Similarly, if you sign in as SalesReporter, only the Sales Reports folder is available. The WIP folder is only available to the Admin user.
