Packaging an application
Click Next and Previous to move through the steps of the wizard.
- Select Dashboards > Applications Administration > Applications.
- Select the application to package.
- Select Applications > Package New Application.

On the General step of the Package New
Application wizard, specify this information:
- Unique Name
- Specify a unique name for the application.

Caution:To guarantee the integrity of the OLAP database, we recommend that you do not change the value in the Name field.
- Description
- Optionally, specify a description of the application or, for example, details of the content creator or developer.

Optionally, on the Release Information
step, switch on Include versioning
and specify a version number for the application.
If a custom package has a version and is used to update an existing application, then the existing application must have a lower version.

On the Capabilities step, select which
capabilities, and which content for those capabilities, to include in the model.
Capabilities in the source application are preselected. For each capability, you have these options:
Option Description Retain The packaged application inherits the capability. Retain and select content The packaged application includes content for the capability, such as Application Studio reports. Switch off The packaged application does not include the capability. -
On the OLAP step, if it is enabled,
optionally switch on Include
database and select one of these options:
Option Description Include OLAP database Includes the entire OLAP database and all its subsets and database properties Export selected cubes and dimensions Enables Cubes and Dimensions tabs , on which you select the cubes and dimensions to include. By default, all cubes and dimensions are selected. Subsets are not included. -
On the Modeling step, select whether
to include generic OLAP and relational
modeling capabilities.
If the source application has the modeling capability, the option is selected by default. If the source application does not have the modeling capability, the option disabled.

On the Languages step, select the
languages to include.
Custom strings and their translations are not included.
- On the Application Roles step, select the custom application roles to include.
- On the Data Roles step, select the custom data roles to include.

On the Data Connections step, select
the data connections to include.
We recommend that you test the data connections after the package is installed.
- On the Custom Settings step, select the custom settings to include.
- On the Export step, optionally select Save profile.

On the Export step, click Start Export.
When the export finishes, you are prompted to save the exported package or, if you selected Save profile, both the package and export profile.
