Widget communication

Widget communication synchronizes filter selections across connected widgets to enhance interactive dashboards.

Widget communication ensures a consistent context across multiple widgets to support efficient analysis.

When you change a filter value in one widget, the same value applies to all linked widgets, so you can analyze related data without manually adjusting each widget.

You can establish widget communication between Ad-hoc Report widgets and between Ad-hoc Report widgets and Application Studio reports.

Parameters linking

The Widget Communication dialog box shows parameters when you create a dashboard.

These conditions must be met to enable automatic connection and widget communication:

  • Parameters must be of the same type, for example, lookup parameters.
  • Parameters must use the same data source, including the same cube and dimension.
  • Dimension selections must either match exactly or use the default element in at least one widget.

Widget communication behavior

A dimension's default elements are used in the filtering area. When you create a widget, you can override those default elements.

When widgets are automatically connected, existing widgets adopt the updated selection to maintain synchronization. A change in the filter selection in one widget updates all connected widgets. The widgets are automatically recalculated to adopt the new selection.
