Filtering in an ad-hoc report

You can filter values and attributes based on multiple filtering criteria. Filtering helps identify patterns, trends, and anomalies within large data sets, extract insights, and organize information. This facilitates decision-making.

To improve the data analysis process, you can use specific conditions to filter data and narrow down relevant information from a large data set.

You can create filters for values and attributes. You can define a value filter on the axis level and an attribute filter on the axis and hierarchy levels.

Filtering limitations

Filtering in an ad-hoc report has these limitations:

  • Because the filter is applied before the visible elements are determined, the elements that appear selectable in the hierarchy view may be removed once the filter takes effect. The final evaluation can result in a blank report, even though visible elements match the filter conditions.
  • The data context which is used in filtering is the same context as the whole report, for example selections or default selections from all hierarchies not used on axes.
  • If you select multiple columns or rows, you cannot filter values in a single column or row.
  • The Value field validates if it is empty and accepts text or numerical values.
  • Regional settings and locale formats, for example, 12 312,54 or 12,312.54, are not supported by the value filter.
  • The Microsoft Analysis Services (MSAs) provider is not supported in filtering.
