Filtering in slices

You can define filters on slice axes or on lists that you define per hierarchy and segment. The two filter types behave differently.

For OLAP data sources, value filters are optimized when possible. A notification is displayed when a value filter, or a combination of value filters, is not optimized. The notification suggests actions that improve filter performance.

Filtering lists

When you add a hierarchy to an axis, you can define a filter as part of the list. To create a filter, select Edit List > List Designer. A filter that you define for a list affects only that list. When you add another hierarchy to the axis, that hierarchy does not affect the filter result. The same filter result is repeated for every element of the other hierarchy. You can enable or disable filters that you create in the list designer. You can filter a list by caption, unique name, attribute, and custom MDX.

Filtering axes

When you add several hierarchies to an axis, you can define filters that apply to all returned element combinations. To filter an axis, click Edit Axis in the Rows or Columns section in the Edit Slice dialog box. Then, specify the filter in the Axis Designer. You can filter a slice axis by caption, unique name, attribute, value, and custom MDX.

You can enable or disable filters that you create in the axis designer.
