Creating a standard slice

  1. Open the report in which to create a slice.
  2. In the Design mode, right-click the Slices folder in the Accessories pane and select New Slice.
  3. Specify a name for the slice and, optionally, a description.
  4. Select Standard as the slice type.
  5. Select the data connection and cube in which to create the slice.
  6. In the Source section, in the Expand and collapse field select True to make the slice expandable.
  7. The True option is selected by default and you can control the slice hyperblocks expansion and collapse.
  8. After you add the slice to the spreadsheet and the hyperblocks are created for the axes, you can still control how the hyperblock expands or collapses, using the Format Hyperblock dialog box settings
  9. Select False to make slice hyperblocks not expandable. For not expandable slices, all rows and columns of the slice are drawn by the hyperblocks.
  10. In the Rows section, click Add Hierarchy and select the hierarchy to form the rows of the report.
You can add multiple hierarchies to the row axis.
  11. Optionally, click Edit list in the first Segment column and use the List Designer to specify which elements to include on the horizontal axis of the slice.
If you don't edit the list, all elements of the hierarchy are included.
  12. Optionally, define caption, unique name, and attribute filters.
  13. To view the hierarchy in a reverse order, select True in the Invert hierarchy field in the Advanced list settings section.
This option is available only when the Expand and collapse field is set to True. The feature Inverted Hierarchy cannot be used with more than one hierarchy on an axis.
  14. Optionally, activate Zero or null suppression and select the suppression type for the rows.
The None option is selected by default and no rows are excluded from the results.
  15. Select Empty to exclude rows that contain only empty values.
  16. Select Zero & Empty to exclude rows that contain only zero and empty values.
  17. Optionally, if you use multiple hierarchies on the row axis, click Add Segment to add segments to the axis.
You can add maximum 15 segments to an axis. Define lists for each segment.
  18. Repeat steps 11 to 14 to specify the hierarchies and segments of the columns axis in the Columns section.
  19. To filter and sort the element combinations that are displayed by an axis by caption, unique name, attribute, or value, click Edit Axis and specify the filter and sorting criteria.
  20. To add a filter, slice, or hierarchy, perform these steps:
    1. In the Data Area section, click Add Hierarchy.
    2. In the Selection column, click Edit slice to select the elements of the filter in the slice designer.
    3. From the Aggregation list, select an aggregation function.

By default, the sum of the values is returned.

If your report already includes matching combo boxes, you can click Fill to automatically reference those as filters.

The Preview pane is updated to show the results of your changes.

  21. Click OK.

The XML definition of a slice is displayed in the XML Definition field of the Properties pane.
