Exporting an application

Note: Currently, you cannot export standard applications.

The content of the wizard is dynamic and it adapts to the application type.

Click Next and Previous to move through the steps of the wizard.

  1. Select Dashboards > Applications Administration > Applications.
  2. Select the application to export and click Export.
  3. On the General Information step of the Export Application wizard, specify this information:
    Name
    Specify a name for the application.
    Unique Name
    Specify a unique name for the application.
    Description
    Optionally, specify a description of the application or, for example, details of the content creator or developer.
  4. On the Release Information step, specify a version.
    If an application package has a version and is used to update an existing application, then the existing application must have the same or lower version.
  5. On the Security step, specify these security objects:
    Note: The Export Application wizard does not automatically detect relationships between security objects. Ensure you select all the security objects required for your application.
    • Basic groups
    • Basic users
    • Registered users
    • Registered groups
    • Repository roles
    • Application roles
      Note: For built-in system application roles, such as AdministratorRole or MasterRole, the export does not include the full object definition. Instead, it only contains references to other security objects that the role is linked to.

      For information on the system application roles, see EPM Administration Guide > Security.

    • Data roles
      Note: To avoid losing permission data in access cubes, we recommend that you always export data roles.
  6. On the Application settings step, select the application settings to include.

    You can specify whether to include role values and user values to the application settings.

  7. On the Custom settings step, select the custom settings to include.

    You can specify whether to include encrypted values to the custom settings.

  8. On the Languages step, select the languages to include.
  9. On the Data Connections step, select the data connections to include.
    We recommend that you test the data connections after the exported application is installed.
  10. On the App Engine processes step, select the processes to include.
  11. On the Application Studio step, select the reports to include.
    Together with the reports, you can include translation, permissions, and variable values.
  12. On the Dashboards step, select the dashboards to include.
    Together with reports, you can include translation and permissions values.
  13. On the OLAP step, select the database settings to include.
    If you select the OLAP capability option, an empty database is created. If you select any OLAP content, the OLAP capability option is automatically selected, and the database is created with the selected content included.
  14. On the Modeling step, select the modeling capabilities.
    These dependencies apply in the Modeling step:
    • If you select the OLAP model option, the referenced staging tables are automatically selected.
    • If you select staging tables, the OLAP capability option from the previous step is automatically selected.
  15. On the Export step, click Start export.
    Optionally, you can perform these actions:
    • Save the database.
    • Save the profile.
    Note: If you created a protected or restricted application, you can seal and lock the application using the signing key.
The information banner at the top of the Export Application wizard shows the status of the export.

After the successful export, the export the .biapplication file is downloaded and the logs are shown in the dialog window.
