Adding a child element

Use the Add Child action to create an element directly under a selected parent in a hierarchy.

Adding a child element

  1. In OLAP Modeling, select the Elements tab.
  2. Select one element to use as the parent.
  3. Click Add Child on the contextual toolbar.
  4. If the parent is a Base Element, confirm its conversion to a Consolidated Element
Note: If you cancel the conversion, the child element is not added.
  5. In the row below the parent, specify the element name.
  6. Press Enter

Adding multiple child elements

  1. Select the parent element.
  2. Click Add Child multiple times.
Each new row is inserted at the top of the parent's list of child elements. The focus remains on the most recently added row.
  3. Specify an element name and press Enter.

Managing status indicators

The grid displays these indicators:

  • Orange asterisk: The row contains unsaved changes.
  • Triangular marker: The cell contains a modified value.
  • Red circle with an exclamation mark: The row contains a validation error, such as an empty or duplicate element name.
  • Click Save to save all new elements and relationships. Saving clears the dirty flags and status indicators.
  • Click Discard to remove all unsaved child elements and revert pending element conversions.
Note: The system prevents changes that would make an element its own ancestor. If the system detects a circular reference, a dialog lists the conflicting references.
