OLAP metadata attributes for changelog tables

The Change Log architecture uses separate database tables for each cube, including Operations, Hierarchies, and Cell Changes.

Previous reports that queried Change Log data used hardcoded table names. Hardcoded references increased maintenance effort and reduced report reuse across cubes.

New cube attributes provide the names of the Change Log tables and the cube's normalized name.

You can use these attributes to create dynamic reports that reference the correct Change Log tables for the selected cube. Dynamic references remove hardcoded table names and improve report reuse across cubes.

Available attributes

The OLAP metadata hierarchy exposes read-only attributes that provide the cube's normalized name and changelog table identifiers. Application Studio reports can use these attributes to retrieve the correct changelog table names. This approach supports cube names that contain characters that Data Lake or SQL table names do not support, such as #, spaces, ä, ö, and ü.

This table shows available OLAP metadata hierarchy attributes for changelog tables:

Attribute Description
NORMALIZED_NAME Sanitized cube name that changelog tables use. If the cube name contains supported characters, the attribute returns the original cube name.
CHANGELOG_CC_TABLE Full name of the Cell Changes table.
CHANGELOG_OP_TABLE Full name of the Operations table.
CHANGELOG_HR_TABLE Full name of the History Changes table.

Behavior

The attributes contain values for cubes that have a changelog configuration. The system confirms the normalized name after a synchronization event, such as a database start, a cube save, or a changelog re-enable operation.

If a cube name contains supported characters, NORMALIZED_NAME returns the original cube name.

If two cubes generate the same normalized name, the system appends a numeric suffix to maintain uniqueness. Example: _ANALYSIS and _ANALYSIS1.

The values are read-only and originate from the changelog configuration in EPM Administration. The Logged Cubes page displays the normalized name.

The attributes are available in on-premises Microsoft SQL Server deployments and multi-tenant cloud Data Lake deployments. Each provider uses different normalization rules. Data Lake supports A-Z, 0-9, and underscore. Microsoft SQL Server supports a broader character set.
Note: These attributes require the new changelog scheme. For information about changelog activation and output target configuration, see Configuring OLAP Changelog in EPM Administration.

Cube name with unsupported characters

Cube: #PRODUCT

Database: Samples

Enabled changelog modes: CC, OP, and HR

NORMALIZED_NAME -> _PRODUCT
CHANGELOG_CC_TABLE -> EPMOL_Samples___PRODUCT_CC
CHANGELOG_OP_TABLE -> EPMOL_Samples___PRODUCT_OP
CHANGELOG_HR_TABLE -> EPMOL_Samples___PRODUCT_HR

Cube name with supported characters

Cube: Sales

The system returns the original cube name because character replacement is not required.

NORMALIZED_NAME -> Sales

Unicode

Cube: RÄKÖCZY

NORMALIZED_NAME -> R_K_CZY
