Top & Bottom Analysis report mechanism
The Top & Bottom Analysis report dynamically reflects the context and selections made within the C-Suite dashboard or other entry points.
When you access the report from the dashboard, these mechanisms apply:
- The last business dimension shown in the dashboard widget is displayed in the data grid.
- Any preceding business objects are automatically placed in the Filter panel with active filters based on the rows selected in the dashboard.
- The objective, metric, reporting period, and comparison period are inherited from the dashboard.
- The sorting mode (top or bottom) is inherited from the last chart section of the dashboard.
Example
If you analyze the gross profit for the month of June, perform these steps
- Open the report from the dashboard in which the Entity, Business Unit, and Region were expanded.
- The data grid shows Regions and the Entity and Business Unit are displayed in the Filter panel with active filters for Genesis Automotive and Finance.
- You view that Asia has a large negative difference.
- Zoom in on Asia to see sub-regions such as Japan and South Korea.
- Click to analyze by the Product. The Product replaces Region in the grid. The filter for Asia remains active.
- You see the under-performing product lines in that region.
- Click to expand to the Customer Segment. A third dimension is added to the grid.
- Sort by % Difference to identify the most affected segments.
- Export the report to Excel and share it with your finance team for follow-up.
With this workflow, you can move from a high-level overview to a detailed, actionable view without losing the context or reconfiguring the filters.
