Trend & Projection chart mechanism

The Trend & Projection chart widget enables tracking performance, comparing actuals, budgets, and forecasts, and visualizing trends.

When you access the chart from the dashboard, these mechanisms apply:

  • If you change the application context, strategy, objective, or metric, the changed elements are automatically updated in the Trend & Projection widget.
  • If you navigate from the dashboard to the Trend & Projection report, the selected context, such as metric or periods, is preserved.
  • When you return from the report to the dashboard, any changes made in the report are retained and reflected in the dashboard.

Example

  1. In the Strategy & Objective widget, select the Enhance Efficiency & Profitability objective.
  2. In the Metrics widget, highlight the Operating Profit metric.
  3. The Trend & Projection widget is automatically updated to show actuals, forecasts, and budget values for the metric.
  4. A sharp drop in the forecast profit for the next three periods is shown. Open the chart settings and switch from the rolling trend to the defined range to focus on the last six periods.
  5. Disable the Waterfall chart to simplify the view and enable the Δ% Budget to understand the variance.
  6. The Summary dialog box shows that the forecast is 8% below the budget for the last period.
  7. Based on this insight, jump to the Trend & Projection report for a more detailed breakdown.
