Key features of the Metrics Overview report
Analyze By
This function replaces the current dimension with another dimension in the data grid.
This is an example of a scenario when you analyze the Operating Profit Margin KPI for the Enhance Efficiency and Profitability objective:
- By default, the report shows the Operating Profit Margin KPI across all entities.
- Click to switch the view to a business unit.
- In the filter, select the finance business unit to narrow your scope.
The columns reflect the values for the finance business unit only so you can focus your analysis on that unit’s contribution to the KPI.
Columns
This table shows the functions of the columns in the Metrics Overview report.
Sub function | Description |
---|---|
Add Analysis Column | Enables the comparison of values to earlier periods and extends the time-based analysis beyond the standard reporting and comparison periods.
The analysis period is always a month. If you click the button, a new column with a value of one month prior to the comparison period is added to the end of the data grid. You can add multiple analysis columns depending on how many earlier periods are available. Each additional column corresponds to one month earlier. If, for example, you analyze the Revenue KPI for March 2025 (reporting period) and February 2025 (comparison period), click Add Analysis Column twice to add columns for January 2025 and December 2025.The report shows a 4-month trend. You can identify whether the revenue trend improves or declines over time. |
Manage Analysis | The Manage Analysis function is available after you add the analysis columns.
With the Manage Analysis function, you can perform these actions:
You cannot access and edit the reporting and comparison periods from the Manage Analysis view. You can use the automatic selection options such as Prior Period or Same Period Last Year. Such column shows the actual period time, for example, June 2024. |
These switches to control the visibility of specific columns are available:
- Δ (Difference): Difference between the reporting and comparison periods
- Δ% (Difference%): Percentage difference
- Δ (Sparkline): Mini chart that shows the difference trend
- Trend (Sparkline): Mini chart that shows the trend in periodical values
If you disable
, all four columns are hidden.
: The main switch. If enabled, these columns are automatically activated:
- Show Difference (Δ): Controls the visibility of the Difference column, which helps highlight changes in raw values. This column is excluded for ratios and margins in which differences are not meaningful.
- Show Difference % (Δ%): Controls the visibility of the Percentage Difference column, which enhances assessing relative performance changes. This column is always shown.
- Show Difference Sparkline: Controls the visibility of the Δ (Sparkline) column, which helps to identify trends without reading detailed values.
- Show Trend Sparkline: Controls the visibility of the Last 12 Periods Sparkline column, which visually indicates the performance direction over time.
When the dashboard or report loads, all the columns are enabled by default.
Rows
You can define which metric levels are shown and whether they are expanded or collapsed by default.
You can change the row height in the data grid to extra small, small (default), medium, or large.
View switch
You can use a switch to switch between the periodical and the Year-to-Date (YTD) views. For example, if you view the EBIT KPI in the periodical view for March 2025, you define these settings:
- March 2025 (periodical)
- February 2025 (periodical)
- YTD March 2025 (as the comparison row)
If you switch to the YTD view, the table shows these values:
- March 2025 YTD
- February 2025 YTD
- March 2025 Periodical (as the comparison row)
You can compare the cumulative performance with the monthly performance.
Export
You can download the Metrics Overview report in Excel or PDF format.
Scaling and decimal
The scaling and decimal settings in the Metrics Overview report are inherited from the C-Suite dashboard. In the dashboard, automatic scaling is applied.
Scaling is not applied to percentages, ratios, or zero values. By default, values are displayed with one decimal.
You cannot change the scaling and decimal settings.
