RAC and MDAC cubes
Relations Access Control (RAC) and Multidimensional Access Control (MDAC) cubes enable cell-level access control in OLAP cubes. An MDAC cube allows setting access permissions in the roles dimension (#__GRP__) context. A RAC cube operates without the roles dimension and relies only on other dimensions.
By enabling Multidimensional Access Security or Relations Access Security, or both, you ensure detailed control of data access in cube cells. Consequently, only authorized users can access sensitive information.
For MDAC, you can use a simple or advanced approach. The simple approach offers an easy and quick setup with predefined standards. The simple approach has these characteristics:
- The MDAC cube is created with a standard name, caption, and description.
- The MDAC cube cannot be linked to other cubes that use the same dimensions.
- A data table with all required columns to populate the MDAC cube with values is automatically created and linked.
The advanced approach supports extensive customization and flexibility for complex scenarios. The advanced approach has these characteristics:
- The MDAC cube name, caption, and description can be customized.
- The MDAC cube can be linked to other cubes that use the same dimensions.
- A data table with all required columns to populate the MDAC cube with values is not automatically linked.
Note: You cannot combine the simple and advanced approaches on the same cube.
