Differences between Infor EPM business applications and Infor EPM business applications - Designer
Overview
There are functional and conceptual differences between the two versions. For single tenant cloud installations, only the Designer-based version is supported. Not all features of Designer are available in Business Modeling.
Business Modeling has some new features that are not available in Designer. These include upload and download functions for business objects.
Whether you have d/EPM Business Applications, or d/EPM Business Applications - Designer is shown in the Applications dashboard, which is displayed by default when you sign in to EPM Administration. Contact your administrator if you do not have access to the Applications dashboard.
Conceptual differences
Designer has these characteristics:
- Oriented towards administrators who are likely to have deep knowledge of OLAP structures and settings.
- Available in on-premises and in single tenant cloud environments.
- Data integration is via the Base Data Store .
Business Modeling has these characteristics:
- Available in on-premises and multi-tenant cloud environments.
- Oriented towards the requirements of users whose main interest is likely to be in business structures, known as business objects, rather than on database structure.
- Used for modeling of structures such as accounts, organizations, and entities. These structures are referred to as Business Objects. The structures can be populated manually, uploaded from files, or through integration with Data Lake.
- Provides management of settings, such as calendar and currencies.
- System and technical dimensions are background features that are not visible in the Business Modeling user interface.
- Cubes and rules are created in the background through a publishing process.
- Data integration is through Data Lake in multi-tenant cloud environments and through relational modeling in on-premises environments.
Module specific differences
These modules are not currently available through Business Modeling:
- Allocation
- Strategy Management
- Workforce Planning
- Financial Consolidation
- No multilevel consolidation.
- The Financial Consolidation module is not available through Designer. It is only available through Business Modeling.
Differences in business functions
These functions are not currently available through Business Modeling.
