Installing a farm upgrade on multiple machines

A farm typically consists of a primary machine and one or more additional machines. This is an overview of the process to upgrade a farm that runs on multiple machines:
  1. Install the new version of the Setup_dEPM_Services.exe file on all the machines that are part of the farm.
Note: Ensure that you update all machines with the same new version. All services must have a matching build version. On each machine, install an update or patch manually by running Setup_dEPM_Services.exe. You can use individual service installers to upgrade only the services that are installed on your machine.

Before you perform the Service Expert or Farm Expert configuration process, ensure that the software update is completed on all machines (primary, OLAP, and scaling).

  2. On the primary machine, run the configuration with the Service Expert. This upgrades the system databases.
Note: Before you perform the next step, ensure that the Service Expert configuration process is completed on the primary machine.
  3. On each additional machine (scaling and OLAP server), complete the configuration with the Service Expert.
Note: Before you perform the next step, ensure that the Service Expert configuration process is completed on each additional machine.
  4. On the primary machine, continue the installation in the Farm Expert. Close the Service Expert.Optionally, select the option to launch the Farm Expert.
  5. When prompted, restart the Dashboards Service worker on the primary machine, and on any other farm that has the system databases installed.
  6. On the primary machine, complete the configuration in the Farm Expert.
