Source allocation types
This section describes the allocation types that are available for allocation sources.
% of data area
A data area as well as a percentage is defined. During the allocation process, the value of the defined data area is detected, multiplied by the defined percentage, and used for the allocation to the target. For all dimensions where no element has been defined, the total number of the dimensions is allocated. The allocated number can be discharged to the source.
- Define a source data area. The data area has a total value of, for example, $100,000.
- Specify a percentage of the total value of the data area to allocate. For example, 10%.
- 10% of $100,000 is allocated, in the proportions specified in the source data area, to the target data area according to target allocation type that you select.
- The source data is discharged by $10,000, proportionally.
These are the available target allocation types:
- Proportionally by Source
- Proportionally by Target
Fixed Amount
Only a fixed amount is defined which is allocated to the target. This value can be discharged to the source. Use this allocation type when, for example, you allocate additional costs.
- Specify a fixed amount, such as $50,000.
- $50,000 is allocated to the target data area according to the target allocation type that you select.
- Optionally, select as the discharge method and specify the source data area. The data area is zeroed out when the allocation is processed.
The fixed value amount applies per base period when running the allocation. For example: A fixed value of 1,000 over the total year allocates 1,000 per base period (month) for a total allocation of 12,000 per year.
Basis X Factor
Use this allocation type to allocate values by reference to a driver, and to a factor that you specify. For example, if you allocate with a factor of $0.01 and a driver definition of $100,000 sales, then $1,000 is allocated. An aggregated value is created in the target data area. This allocation type is used, for example, for different calculated costs.
- Specify a factor.
- Select a driver.
- Specify the driver data area.
If you select this allocation type, you cannot specify a discharge method.
Fixed amount of data area
To specify a fixed amount of a data area, select
as the allocation type and then select a discharge method other than No Discharge.- Define a data area.
- Specify a fixed amount of the data area. For example, $50,000.
- $50,000 is allocated to the target data area according to target allocation type that you select.
- The source data area is reduced by $50,000. The reduction is spread over the source data area in the same proportions as the allocated values.
These are the available target allocation types:
- Proportionally by Source
- Proportionally by Target
