Adding a data connection

  1. Select Dashboards > Applications Administration > Data Connections.
  2. Select the application in which to create the data connection.
  3. Click Add and select the category of data connection to add.
  4. On the General tab, specify a name for the data connection. Optionally, specify a description.
    The unique name of the connection is automatically derived from the name that you specify.
  5. Click the Connection tab. The options of the tab depend on the category of data connection.
  6. Depending on the selected category of the data connection, perform these actions:
    • For OLAP connections, select an OLAP connection from another application, then click the Advanced tab, if available, and select the required format for element unique names.
    The default is the format that is specified in the database.
    • For relational connections and XMLA, select one of these options:
    Option Description
    Define data connection Specify the provider, host, credentials, and database.
    Link to data connection in another app Select an existing data connection used by another application.
    Use built-in staging database Use the staging database.
    Then, click the Advanced tab, if available, and specify the connection's options.
  7. Click the Usage tab and specify the clients in which the connection can be used and whether the connection can be used in other applications.
  8. Click Save.
