Data roles and permissions

Data roles and permissions determine what actions can be taken in relation to objects within the OLAP database, and by whom.

Objects include, for example, dimensions and rules. Permissions include the ability to edit rules and dimensions and to write values to the cubes.

If an application contains an OLAP database then the OLAP permissions are also available as application permissions.

There are inbuilt data roles and you can add others.

The OLAP Data Roles widget of the Data Roles dashboard lists all OLAP data roles.

Select Dashboards > OLAP > Data Roles.

Built-in roles are protected. You cannot modify, delete or export them.

These OLAP roles are built in:

ViewRole
Enables viewing of all report and dashboard content. This role is assigned the View OLAP permission.
MasterRole
Enables viewing and editing of all content and administration of permissions and databases. This role is assigned all OLAP permissions.
DesignerRole
Enables viewing and editing of all report and dashboard content, and writing values to OLAP. This role is assigned the View OLAP, Edit OLAP, and Write Values permissions.
BulkImport
Enables to performing a bulk import of data. The role is not assigned to any user or group.
AdministratorRole
Enables administration of permissions. This role is assigned the View OLAP and Administer OLAP Database permissions.

You can import roles from one application into another.
