Migrating custom settings

In a custom application, you can migrate custom settings to global variables, and global variables to custom settings. You can also migrate from one custom setting or global variable to another.

When you export reports, custom settings are automatically included. To transfer Application Engine processes, you must export the custom settings to a .xml file and then import them.

Caution:
Create a backup of the repository before you perform this task. Your changes cannot be undone.
  1. Ensure that all reports are checked in.
Right-click the root of the report catalog and select Check-in/out > Check-in All.
  2. Select Extras > Migrate References.
  3. In the Source Object field, click Add Reference and select the object to migrate.
  4. In the Replace With field, select the object with which to replace the source object.
You can create new custom settings or variables as necessary. In the Replace With field, select Custom settings > New Custom Setting or Global variables > New Variable.
  5. Confirm that you have made a backup of the repository.
  6. Optionally, select the option to delete the migrated source objects after they have been migrated.
  7. Optionally, change the location in which to save the log file.
The log file records when the migration started and finished and, for example, which redundant source objects have been deleted.
  8. Click Start.
  9. If you are transferring Application Engine processes, click Export to export custom settings to a .xml file.
