Associating list objects with lists

Dimensions and hierarchies are lists of elements. If you associate a dimension or hierarchy with a list object, the elements are copied into a local list. In View mode, the object displays all elements in that dimension or hierarchy. You can then use a list designer to restrict the elements that are displayed, without affecting the original dimension or hierarchy. You can also create lists from dimensions and hierarchies and associate them with list objects.

You can drag a dimension, hierarchy, or list from the Database Structure and drop it onto a list object in a report. The association between the list and list object is created automatically. Or, for lists only, you can open the Format Listview of a list object and make the association manually and, optionally, copy the list into a local list.

Command buttons and text objects cannot be linked to lists.

To manually associate a list object with a list:

  1. In Design mode, right-click the list object and select Object Properties.
  2. On the General tab, click the empty List drop-down and select the list to associate with the object.
