Calculation by Employee benefits

PercentOfPeriodic and YTDRanges benefits have a Calculate by Employee option. When this option is turned on, these benefits are calculated on the sum of the based-on benefits for all positions held by an employee. When this option is turned off, these benefits are calculated on the based-on benefits for a single position only.

This table shows the calculation results for an employee, Jackie, who holds two positions:

Position Employee Benefit Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun
Nurse Jackie Benefit B 200 200 200 200 200 200
Receptionist Jackie Benefit B 100 100 100 100 100 100

In this example, Benefit A, which is a PercentOfPeriodic benefit, is based-on Benefit B.

This table shows the settings for Benefit A:

Start date End date Percentage Cap
1/1/16 6/30/16 10% 63

This table shows the calculation results for Benefit A, with the Calculate by Employee option turned off:

Position Employee Benefit Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun
Nurse Jackie Benefit A 20 20 20 3 0 0
Receptionist Jackie Benefit A 10 10 10 10 10 10

If the option to calculate by employee is turned off, Benefit A is calculated separately for each position. Benefit A for the nurse position reaches the cap value of 63 in April. For the receptionist position, it does not reach the cap value.

This table shows the calculation results for Benefit A, with the Calculate by Employee option turned on:

Position Employee Benefit Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun
Nurse Jackie Benefit A 20 20 2 0 0 0
Receptionist Jackie Benefit A 10 10 1 0 0 0

In this example, Benefit A reaches its cap value of 63 in March.
