Exporting and importing OLAP databases

Database exports can be used, for example, to move data between test and production environments, to migrate from Infor BI 11.0.x, or to help in troubleshooting.

Typically, when moving data between, for example, test and production environments, you export and import .olap files. When migrating from Infor BI 11.0.x you can create a .zip file of the database to migrate and import the .zip. If necessary, you can import zipped app_olap files that were created in Infor BI 11.0.x.

You run exports and imports from the Databases widget, which is in these dashboards.

  • Save and Backup

You can export a running OLAP database. You can import only to a stopped database. You can export the entire database or select the cubes and dimensions to export. The export is saved with a .olap file extension.

If there is a conflict with an existing database name, you can change the name of an OLAP database during import. This is possible only for custom applications.

Exporting only selected dimensions and cubes risks introducing inconsistencies on import.

Note:  In all cases, is the responsibility of the administrator performing an import to ensure the consistency of the OLAP database with its model and to create appropriate database backups before importing.
