Managing dashboard and dashboard folder permissions

To manage the permissions of dashboards and dashboard folders, you must have Administer permission on the application.

Users' access to dashboards is controlled through membership of roles. By default, role permissions are inherited by the folders below it, and by the dashboards, reports, and folders that they contain. So, if a role has Edit Dashboards permission on the application then all users within that role can edit every dashboard. You can manually add or remove permissions on a particular folder, dashboard, or report. In doing so, you break the inheritance from the application. Typically, you edit permissions on folders, not on individual dashboards or reports.

  1. Click Dashboards browser in the toolbar.
  2. Click the Settings icon of the dashboard or folder to manage.
If you change the permissions on a folder, the permissions are inherited by all subfolders and dashboards within it.
  3. Click Permissions.
The Permissions dialog box displays the roles that have been created for the dashboard catalog. By default, roles inherit their permissions from the dashboard catalog.
  4. To assign or withdraw permissions manually, select or clear the check boxes.
If you change a permission manually, the Inherited From field is cleared and the Restore inheritance button is enabled. Click the Restore inheritance icon to restore inheritance of permissions from the dashboard catalog.
