Importing structure in Designer

This section describes importing the dimension data that forms the basic structures of the Infor EPM OLAP cubes and is required when performing integrations through stored procedures or through the Base Data Store user interface.

The dimensions that correspond to the data must be imported first so that the dimension elements that identify the cube data values are valid and exist in the dimensions.

After executing the integration scripts, the dimension and cube data tables have been generated in the integration database and are available to be imported by Designer.

Optionally delete all elements before import overwrites the current dimension structure of the Infor EPM Designer database. To maintain existing dimension structure and incremental load new structure, you must update existing elements. Also, recreating the OLAP database from Designer updates the OLAP model with the new structure, overwriting the old OLAP dimensions. Be sure to perform these operations first on a test installation to verify that the changes are correct and the dimension structures are built as intended. You should backup the Designer and OLAP databases before and after the integration imports.

  1. Start Designer.
  2. Connect to the model.
  3. Expand the model.
  4. Expand Configuration.
  5. Click the Common Settings tab.
  6. Select Click here to import the dimensions of the Integration import.
  7. From the Source Connection list, select the connection to the depm_integration database that was configured previously. The import facility uses the connection to find all the available dimension tables which could be imported.
  8. Select one of these options:
    Import type Description
Delete all elements before import Intended for an initial load of structure. This type of structure import clears all dimension content and loads the hierarchies, elements, and attributes from the integration database.
Update existing elements and structure Intended for an incremental load of structure. This import behavior updates hierarchies, attributes and elements. Existing elements remain, while new elements from the integration database are imported into the dimension.
  9. Select the dimensions to import and click Import.
Messages are displayed in the Status pane as the dimensions are imported. Any error stops the process and prevents subsequent selected dimensions from being imported.
