Creating charts

  1. In Design mode, select the data.
  2. Click Chart Wizard in the Objects toolbar.
  3. Select a chart type and sub-type.
  4. Ensure that the range of cells that contains the chart data is correctly specified. The range of cells is specified in the format Report!$C$8:$D$9 .
  5. Specify whether the chart displays the columns of data in the source data, or the rows.
Note: By default, charts in Design mode display three columns and three rows of sample data. If your chart will have a legend and you want to change the format of the items in the legend, specify the same number of data rows of sample data as there will be legend items. To specify the number of categories displayed on the Category axis of a chart, specify the same number of categories of sample data as there are actual categories.
  6. Optionally, select Display message when chart area becomes too small.
This option warns you if a chart contains too many data series to display correctly. It applies to charts with 1000 data series or more.
  7. Optionally, specify titles for the chart and for the X and Y axes, and secondary axes if they are used.
Or, you can specify titles on the Titles tab of the Chart Options dialog. There, you can also specify the units displayed on each axis.
