Configuring widget communication

After you create a Self-Service widget, it attempts to connect with other widgets on the dashboard. The connection is established when the filter or measure values of the new widget match those of existing widgets, or when some of these values are set to default.

If the values of the new widget match multiple existing connection parameters or multiple values which are not yet connected, then these values are not included in the widget communication. The dashboard cannot determine which connection to select.

In this case, you can manually configure widget behavior.

  1. On the dashboard, click the down arrow next to the Dashboard icon and select Widget Communication to open the dialog.
  2. The left panel shows existing Parameter Connections.
    1. Optionally, select or deselect the Auto-detect new connections check box.
    2. Click the parameter icon to display the widget that it is linked to.
    3. Optionally, click the Edit icon to change the name of the connection.
    4. Choose the Initial value from the menu.
    5. Click ON/OFF to enable or disable the communication.
  3. The right panel shows unlinked widgets and their parameters.
    1. Optionally, select or deselect the check box to Hide linked parameters.
    2. Expand the widget to show available parameters.
  4. To create a new connection, click the parameter and drag and drop it to New Parameter Connection in the left panel.

The parameter moves to the right panel.
  7. Optionally, to connect parameters to a widget, drag and drop the widget from the right panel onto the required widget in the left panel.

All manually added parameters are removed.
