Creating parameter connections

To create a parameter connection, you must have the Edit permissions. After you switch your dashboard to Edit mode, the Widget Communication option is available on the Actions menu on the dashboard toolbar or on the Edit tab on the Mac menu bar.

Parameter connections represent links between widgets. By default, connections between report widgets are detected automatically and the parameter connections are created. You can turn individual or all connections on or off.

You can also create parameter connections manually.

  1. In Edit mode, click the Actions button on the application toolbar or click the Edit tab on the Mac menu bar.
  2. Select Widget Communication.
  3. Click Advanced Options.
  4. To show widget parameters, expand the widget in the Widgets and Parameters pane.
  5. Drag a parameter to the New Parameter Connection field in the Connections pane.
    A parameter connection is created.
  6. From each widget that you want to include in the connection, drag a parameter of the same name and drop it on the parameter connection.
  7. Optionally, select that widget from the Initial Value list to set the initial value of a parameter in a parameter connection.
The selected widget becomes the leading widget. By default, the values of the parameters in a connection are stored in the dashboard and used each time the dashboard is opened.
