ADDRESS

This function returns the address of cell from specified row and column numbers.

By default, the function returns an absolute cell reference. Optionally, use the reference_type parameter to return a relative reference or, for example, a relative row and absolute column reference.

By default, cell references are returned in A1 style: that is, column letter followed by row number. Optionally, use the A1_style parameter to return R1C1 references: that is, row number followed by column number.

Syntax

=ADDRESS(row,column[,reference_type][,A1_style])

These are the optional reference_type parameter values:

  • 1: Absolute
  • 2: Absolute row, relative column
  • 3: Relative row, absolute column
  • 4: Relative

The value of the optional A1_style parameter can be True or False.

Examples

These functions return $C$2:

  • =ADDRESS(2,3)
  • =ADDRESS(2,3,1)

This function uses an optional parameter to return $C2:

=ADDRESS(2,3,3)

This function returns R1C1:

=ADDRESS(1,1,1,"False")
