Immediate and manual writeback

In the Application Studio client, values are always written back immediately. Therefore, you cannot submit multiple values and then write them back together, by clicking a button for example.

But, in a report in the client, you can specify whether writeback is automatic or manual in the web, by using these features:

  • The Immediate Writeback report property
  • The Immediate Writeback input of a Set Parameters action

The Immediate Writeback report property can have these values:

  • Inherit from catalog
  • Automatic
  • Manual

In the report catalog, immediate writeback can be enabled or disabled. This is specified in the Application Settings dashboard in d/EPM Administration. There, if Enabled is specified, values are written back automatically. But you can override this by specifying Manual in the report's properties in the client.

In a Set parameters action, you can use the Immediate Writeback optional input to change the writeback behavior in the web, on the fly. Specify a formula that returns TRUE or FALSE as the value of the input to determine whether writeback is immediate or manual.
