Line tab

The Line tab is a tab of the Format Axis dialog.

You can specify the style, color and width of an axis. Or you can specify that no axis line is displayed.

  • To accept the default line format, select Automatic in the Line section of the tab.
  • To specify a format, select User-defined.

You can specify the style, color and width of a line. Line styles include solid, dotted and dashed lines. Some solid line styles have a predefined width.

To specify a different width:

  1. Select a line style from the Style list.
  2. Select a color from the color picker.
  3. In the Width field, specify the width of the line.

On the Line tab, you can specify the style of the graduations on the axis. Graduations are markers at right angles to the axis, like the marks on a ruler. They are of two types: Major and Minor. Major markers are equivalent, for example, to the centimeter markers on a ruler. That is, they are associated with specific, labeled values such as 1 cm, 2 cm etc. Minor markers are equivalent, for example, to the millimeter markers on a ruler. They are not labeled and they subdivide the values of the major markers.

Both Major and Minor markers can be placed inside the axis, outside the axis or across the axis. That is, they can point inwards, towards the Plot Area of the chart, outwards, towards the edge of the chart or they can cross the axis. Or, you can specify that no markers are displayed.

You can also specify the position of the value labels in relation to the axis.
