Data Labels tab

The Data Labels tab is available in both the Formatting Data Series dialog and the Chart Options dialog box.

These are examples of how data labels can be used:

  • To display the precise value that a data series represents: Select Show value.
  • To display the name of the data which the data series represents. You might use this instead of displaying a chart legend. Select Show label.
  • To display both the value and name. Select Show label and value.

Some label options are only available for certain types of chart. For example, Show bubble size.

If you enable chart labels, the Format Data Labels dialog box becomes available. Right-click a label in the chart and select Format Data Labels.

Cell formats that are applied to chart data are not automatically applied to chart axes or labels. For example, the X axis of a column chart displays unformatted values even if the source values are formatted as dates. To apply the format of the source values to the axis, select User-defined on the Number tab and select ~ as the format.
Note: If the format of the source values include color, such as _$#,##0;[Red]-_$#,##0s, the color formatting is not applied to axes and labels.

Refresh the report to update the format of the labels.
