Combination charts - Example 3

This example creates a combined column and line chart in which the columns represent sales of all products over twelve months. The lines represent sales of the five product groups through four Points of Sale (POS) over the same period.

In this example, you duplicate a data series and amend the cell coordinates of the duplicate to reference a separate data series.

  1. Create a report with two pairs of overlapping hyperblocks.
Report RP008 uses hyperblocks created from the Product and Period dimensions in one pair and from the POS and Period dimensions in the second pair. In the Structure Selection pane of the List Designer, only the All Tires element of the Product dimension is selected. For the POS dimension, the four POS are selected: Bodyshops, Dealerships, Gas Stations and Tire Stores. In both pairs of hyperblocks, the Period dimension uses the Descendants function to display only the twelve months of 2016.
  2. Insert a CELLGET formula in the overlapping value cell of each pair of hyperblocks.
  3. Highlight the Product and Period pair of hyperblocks and use the Chart Wizard to create the default column chart.
In View mode, the chart displays a single column for each month of 2016. The columns represent sales of All Tires in each month. Identify the color of the data series to represent as a column chart.
  4. In Design mode, double-click the chart.
    A hashed border is displayed.
  5. Right-click and select Data Source.
The Data Source dialog is displayed. The current data series is displayed in the List of Series.
  6. Click Add.
The current data series is duplicated.
  7. Select a data series in the List of Series.
In the Categories, Series and Y-Data fields, the cell coordinates of the data series are displayed.
  8. Replace the cell coordinates with the equivalent coordinates of the second pair of hyperblocks.
  9. Click Apply and then click OK.
In View Mode, six columns are displayed for each month. Identify the color of the data series which represents product sales by period.
  10. In Design mode, double-click the chart.
    A hashed border is displayed.
  11. Click the second column of sample data.
    The column is selected.
  12. Right-click the column, and select Chart Type.
The Chart Type dialog is displayed.
  13. Select Lines as the chart type and select one of the chart subtypes and click OK.
  14. Select Lines as the chart type for the third column of sample data.
  15. Click OK.
In View mode, the columns of the chart represent sales of all products over twelve months. Four lines represent the sales of the individual product groups through the four POS over the same period.
